Description:

FOUR SIGNED PRESIDENTIAL LETTERS (3 SIGNED AS PRESIDENT) Each addressed to John A. Logan of the National Association of Food Chains and all type written and signed while the writers were president. The first, a typed letter SIGNED AS PRESIDENT by Franklin Delano Roosevelt from Hyde Park, N.Y., was written during the Depression (dated June 11, 1935) and inquires as to the pay and hours of store employees and whether any stores use "loss leader" methods. This is of particular interest as it shows a President struggling with a national economic crisis and securing information about the state of the economy from any available source. There is a HANDWRITTEN CORRECTION on to the letter on the last line of the letter that appears to have been done in Roosevelt's hand. The second, a typed letter SIGNED AS PRESIDENT by Harry Truman (dated November 21, 1950) includes a thanks for support from the Association of the nation's mobilization efforts. The third, a typed letter SIGNED AS PRESIDENT by Dwight D. Eisenhower from Denver, CO (dated October 2, 1954), expresses congratulations for the 21st annual meeting of the Association. The fourth, a typed letter secretarially signed Lyndon B. Johnson (dated November 19, 1964) is addressed to "Polly and Jack" and expresses thanks for a personal message (probably a congratulations for Johnson's presidential win that month), a prayer to work together to "assure freedom's victory in a world of peace" and best wishes from the president and his wife. Each is on White House stationary and measures 6 x 8 in (sight). Framed together.
