Bratby was part of the Kitchen Sink Group and this work is an "Homage to John Minton." Julian Hartnoll generously shared that this work is from 1951 when Bratby first entered the Royal College of Art. He became obsessed with the artist John Minton who taught at the Royal College. The figures in the work superficially represents the flamboyant Minton
