LOUIS XV BICOLORED GOLD BOX, PARIS, JEAN-CHARLES-SIMPHORIEN DUBOS, CIRCA 1760-1766
marked to interior of lid, to inside of side and base of box, of rectangular form, the lid centered by a quadrilobed cartouche enclosing amatory trophies reserved against a ground of engine turned wavy sunburst lines within a border with spaced foliate scrolls, the same motifs repeated to each surface, 218.4 grams; with copy of original gift card from 'Aunt Yuki' to 'Carrie,' the card dated October 1932 (tests as 18K)

Catalogue note:
Box originally was a gift from Yuki Kato Morgan (1881-1963), wife of George Denison Morgan; she was born in Kyoto, Japan to a samurai swordsmith; skilled with playing the kokyu, she trained and worked as a geisha, and eventually married Morgan in 1905.
