MANUSCRIPT CONDOLENCE LETTER FROM GUSTAVUS A. MYERS TO JOHN A. WASHINGTON III, ON DEATH OF WIFE, ELEANOR LOVE SELDON consisting of a single sheet of note paper, dated Nov. 17, 1860, hand written and signed by Gustavus A. Myers (1801-1869), addressed to John Augustine Washington III (1821-1861), the great-grand nephew of George Washington and the last private owner of Mount Vernon with his wife, Eleanor Love Selden Washington (1824-1860). Myers, a successful attorney, railroad director, city council member and Mason, was considered the most prominent Jewish citizen in Richmond at the turn of the 20th Century. The acquaintances and business leaders also corresponded about the sale of Mount Vernon to the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and Washington's service in the Civil War
