MANUSCRIPT LETTER FROM ELEANOR LOVE SELDEN WASHINGTON TO HER "BELOVED" HUSBAND, JOHN A. WASHINGTON III, 1852 four-page manuscript letter consisting of large single sheet of gray/blue paper folded. Dated "Walnut Farm Aug. 23d - 52," and signed "E.L. Washington," address leaf to "John A. Washington Esq./ Mt. Vernon/ Near Alexandria/ Virginia" with place [?...town Rd], date and remnant of red seal. Laid paper, "Rhoads & Sons Patent" watermark with "Patent London" seal impressed upper left corner. Eleanor (1824-1860) married John Augustine Washington III (1821-1861) in 1843 and together they were the last private owners of George Washington's Mt. Vernon. Her letter expresses her unhappiness about their lengthy separation, and provides news about their children, social calls she has made, visitors to the area and local events
