YELLOW GOLD BRACELET, THE CLASP ENGRAVED WITH GEORGE WASHINGTON'S COAT OF ARMS AND "MOUNT VERNON," STRUNG WITH COFFEE BEANS, REPAIRED BY SAMUEL KIRK & SONS IN 1861
comprised of eight coffee bean seed pods and 14k yellow gold beads strung on two gold plated foxtail chains, together with a 10K gold chain held together with a gold clasp engraved with George Washington's coat of arms and 'Mount Vernon,' along with four undrilled beads and an oval leather box, with accompanying letter from Samuel Kirk & Sons:
"Baltimore May 21, 1861
Col. Jno [John Augustine] A. Washington [III]
Sir - We have received four of these and we have your bracelet finished but we find the
express is not running and cannot send it that way, but we can send it by mail if you take the risk. If you can get someone to call for it we think is the safest way for you to get it.

  • Property of Washington Family descendants;
    According to the family, this bracelet bearing George Washington's crest is "from Mount Vernon" and was made "for a young lady, perhaps an aunt back a way," by descent in the family to the present owner. Washington grew coffee beans at Mount Vernon.

    Note from Baltimore jeweler Samuel Kirk written to John Augustine Washington III (1821-1861) was great grand nephew of George Washington and the last owner of Mount Vernon.
