13 STAR AMERICAN FLAG, CIRCA 1896 TO 1920'S
the 13 star American flag with thirteen stars and stripes, machine made of wool, stars arranged in 3-2-3-2-3, with hoist, and metal grommets to top and bottom corner, in late 19th century wood frame, flag approximately 22 1/2 x 33 1/4 inches, frame: 26 x 32 inches

Note:
With a note placed within the frame that stating that the flag was purportedly owned by President Franklin Pierce and descended to his cousin, Mary B. Pierce.

  • Provenance: Purchased at an estate sale 40 years ago
  • Condition: Scattered holes of various sizes, with moth holes toward edges, right side and bottom half folded over to fit into frame, strap for hanging stained, fabric thin, fragile and darkened
