SCOTTISH SAMPLER SIGNED "TAN JAMIESON OCHILTREE AGED 7" TOGETHER WITH TWO SMALL SAMPLERS Scottish samplers have many characteristics which are constant including repetitive use of red and green embroidery, flat-topped "A", peacocks, rabbits, family initials (see last row of alphabet) and a balanced design; with alphabet, embroidered verse, numerous motifs including birds, crowns, flowers, animals, and the entire piece has a nice floral border; wool on linen, executed in Algerian eye and cross stitch. Ochiltree is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland; second sampler "Sarah Thompson Aged 10 1835" is 11.5 x 11.5 in.; and third alphabet only sampler is 7.25 x 5.5 in.(3) - h:16.50 d:15.25 in.
