AFTER JAN AND JOEL MARTEL (FRENCH, 1896-1966), TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF L'ACCORDEONISTE cast and signed in block letters on the reverse J-J-MARTEL, h: 12.5 in.

Note:
Sculptors and identical twin brothers from Nantes, France, the Martels are known for their work from the Art Deco and Cubist periods. They shared a workshop, and many of their sculptures were co-signed. The brothers exhibited widely, including works at the Salon des Independants, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Tuileries.

They collaborated on the Claude Debussy monument in the 16th arrondissement in Paris and many other works.

They both died in 1966.
