At age 19, one of Herter's paintings received an honorable mention at the Paris Salon. During his lifetime, Herter also received prizes from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the American Watercolor Society, the Paris Exposition Universelle and the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. When Herter Brothers closed in 1906, Albert Herter founded Herter Looms, a tapestry and textile manufacturing atelier known for creating grand, medieval-inspired pieces.
