Note: Jones's family immigrated to the United States when he was an infant. He was an apprentice engraver in the Albany, New York printing firm Rawdon, Wright, Hatch, and Edson. In 1834, he moved to New York City and attended the Nation Academy's antique class. The Academy awarded him first prize for his drawing. (see 'Paintings & Sculpture at the Nat.
