AMERICAN INLAID MAHOGANY LINEN PRESS, ANNAPOLIS, CIRCA 1790, CIRCLE OF JOHN SHAW, POSSIBLY THE SHOP OF ARCHIBALD CHISHOLM with pierced swan's neck pediment terminating in stylized finely carved flowers over a pair of cabinet doors opening to shelves, the lower section with four long drawers, the upper one compartmentalized, on bracket feet. Circle of John Shaw, possibly the shop of Archibald Chisholm, Annapolis, Maryland, 1785-1795. Mahogany and mahogany veneer with light wood inlay; poplar, gum, yellow pine and oak. Possibly owned by Anna Wells Rutledge in the early 20th Century, arguably one of the greatest Charleston collectors, preservationists and authors, who produced the noted works, Artists in the Life of Charleston; and Portraits in the Maryland Historical Society - h:98.50 w:56 d:24.50 in.
