Catalogue note: The U.S.S. Juniata was a steam sloop-of-war in the United States Navy during the American Civil War; it was named after the Juniata River in Pennsylvania and was launched in 1862.
The Juniata participated in the first and second attacks on Fort Fisher (Wilmington, N.C.) in December 1864 and January 1865, a key Confederate stronghold during the Civil War. The ship was decommissioned and recommissioned multiple times before being sold in 1891.
