Catalogue note:
'Fox Hunters at Andress House' is an early picture painted in watercolor by Andrew Wyeth. The painting depicts a group of fox hunters on horseback heading through a partially snowy landscape towards a farmhouse under an overcast sky. The house depicted is the John Andress House in Chadd's Ford, Pennsylvania, painted from the point of view of Kuerner's Farm, a short walk from the artist's studio.

The Andress House, located downslope from Kuerner's Farm, was built in 1790 and is typical of 18th-century Pennsylvania farmhouse architectures. The artist painted a series of watercolors focusing on the house and property in the late 1930s–40s. According to his granddaughter, winter was Wyeth's favorite season and he "absolutely adored painting outside in the snow." Although it is interesting to overanalyze the artist's work, Wyeth stated simply: "I paint my life."
