BERLIN (KPM) PORCELAIN FIGURE GROUP, ‘WESTPHALIAN WITH DONKEY AND CARRIAGE’ 1914-1918, impressed cypher .M. and Q, blue sceptre, iron-red orb and black Maltese cross marks, incised model no. 9545, black painted 140/428 and 63, modeled by Karl Himmelstoss, depicted as a milkmaid seated in a fully loaded cart pulled by a donkey, its right hind leg tangled between the rein and shaft of the cart, h: 8 1/8 x l: 11 in.

Provenance: Property of a Washington, D.C. Estate

Literature: Karl Himmelstoss (1878-1967), German sculptor and porcelain modeler at Berlin (KPM) from the year 1910. He also designed figures and architectural groups for Rosenthal, Heinrich, Hutschenreuther and Nymphenburg.
