Pedro II was the second and final King of Brazil. He was known as 'Pedro the Magnanimous' and his moderate ways inflamed both the Planter class and the Military. Pedro II was a member of the Royal House of Braganza, and he ruled the Empire of Brazil for 58 years. He survived an assassination attempt in 1889, and he was finally deposed later in 1889. Pedro spent the last several years of his life in exile in Europe.
