BRITISH CREAMWARE POLYCHROME-ENAMELED 'MARRIAGE' JUG, CIRCA 1772
Staffordshire or Leeds Pottery, likely decorated in the workshop of David Rhodes, the horizontal banded engine-turned baluster-shaped jug with beaded rim and an open fox head spout, the entwined strap handle with floral terminals, below the puce chinned spout, the central panel inscribed in black "Samuel and Lydia Slaney" within crossed iron-red blossoming rose stems and scattered sprays, the side painted with a wheat sheaf, plough and sickle on reverse
