Staffordshire or Derbyshire, possibly from the Pomono Potworks under Samuel Bell, of modified pear shape with sparrow beak spout, the reeded strap handle with pinched kick, the folded clays in shades of red-brown and chocolate-brown, on a circular foot

    Catalogue note:
    Ceramics in America - 2003, by Chipstone, p. 195, fig. 12; Ceramics in America - 2003, p. 91, fig. 3. Samuel Bell of the Pomono Potworks in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire took out a patent in 1729 for "red marbled stoneware". Unfortunately the patent didn't hold making specific attribution difficult.
    Micah Salt (1847-1915) of Buxton, Derbyshire, was a tailor and amateur archaeologist. Much of his collection is retained at the Buxton Museum and the British Museum, London. His large pottery collection and furniture were also sold at auction, reference the Hanley Auction Catalogue,1927, Micah Salt Buxton - Pottery/Furniture.
