She was married three times, to John Bell (q.v.), Edmund Rootes (q.v.) and to her cousin, Dr. Robert Bolling Starke. During her first marriage, she designed Bellville, the Richmond mansion where the couple lived until its sale. An acquaintance and admirer of Aaron Burr, Mrs. Bell declaring that such a great man should not have to eat prison food, provided meals for the former Vice President during his imprisonment for treason in Richmond...
