Catalogue note: Widely admired as a satirical illustrator and painter, Laborde produced portraits, nudes, still-lifes, and street scenes reminiscent of Matisse, Kisling, and Pascin. He illustrated numerous novels and a celebrated series on the streets and faces of major cities, including Rues et Visages de Paris, Londres, Berlin, Moscou, and New York. His work was shown at the Salon de Tuileries and Galerie Charpentier in Paris, with major retrospectives held in Paris following his death and at the Museum Galliéra in 1976.
