Description:

CIRCLE OF FRANCISCO DE GOYA (SPANISH, 18TH CENTURY)
SEATED WOMAN HOLDING A FAN
Oil on canvas: 16 x 12 1/2 in.
Framed; verso: numbered in graphite: 2562:22
The seated figure is reminiscent of the seated figure in Goya's "El Quitasol." The composition is simple with the figure creating a pyramidal shape set against a simple background typical of Goya paintings of this period. Also typical of Goya is the use of red ground and abundant use of white paint to emphasize light and shadow.
