Description:

CIVIL WAR M1840 HEAVY CAVALRY SABER MADE BY C. ROBY & CO
with steel scabbard. Sword marked 'A.G.M., US, 1863' on one side of the bottom of the face of the blade and 'C. Roby. W. Chelmsford MASS' on other. Guard made of brass in the three branch 'D' style. Leather and wire over wood grip.
C. Roby & Co (owned by Christopher Roby) made approximately 32,500 cavalry sabers for the Union during the Civil War. Most were made between 1864 and 1865, with only 3,410 being made between the beginning of the war and 1863.
