Joseph Raynes worked circa 1831-1860 as a silversmith and jeweler in Lowell, MA, with a shop at 69 Central Street. He was listed in the "New England Mercantile Union Business Directory" between 1839 and 1860 as a silver manufacturer. He also maintained a branch store in Portsmouth, NH, from 1834-1860, listed in the 1855 city directory as a manufacturer of jewelry and silverwares.
