Catalogue note: Fowler was recognized for his wartime drawings and his accomplished career as a portrait painter. Studied at Westminster School of Art and the Royal College of Art (graduated 1949). Served as a captain in camouflage and intelligence in India and Burma during WWII, producing drawings of army life — twenty-seven now held by the Imperial War Museum. Exhibited at the Royal Academy (from 1951) and other major British societies. Notable sitters include Prime Minister Clement Attlee. Head of Art at the City of London School for over twenty years. A memorial exhibition was held at the Mall Galleries in 1990.
