Catalogue note:
Dorothy Preston was a renowned Washington, D.C. area artist. She was married to a U.S. Air Force General, enabling her to travel the world. According to one author, Preston travelled the world, visiting surviving "manifestations of faith, awe, and fear that have prompted man to art throughout the ages--from the pagan Greek and Roman religions of Antiquity, to the Christianity of medieval times, to the primitive practices of Australian aborigines and the stark, dark mysteries of Easter island."
