Catalogue note: Edmund Darch Lewis was born in Philadelphia to a successful, wealthy, well-connected family. He studied with Paul Weber from 1850 to 1855. Lewis exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for many years beginning in 1854; at the Boston Athenaeum from 1858 to 1869, and the National Academy of Design in 1860. Collections: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Phila.; Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Phila.; Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington; Brandywine Museum of Art, PA.

    It has been lined.
    There is an old tear to the left of the tree in the sky that has inpaint.
    There are two areas of inpaint in the waterfall.
