Catalogue note:
Elizabeth Driggs was the older sister of notable Precisionist painter Elsie Driggs. The sisters grew up in New Rochelle, New York, with parents who supported their artistic pursuits. When Elizabeth and Elsie were in their late teens, an epidemic broke out in New York City. As a result, the sisters traveled to New Mexico where they spent a summer studying art. Elizabeth primarily painted watercolors, but this painting shows that she experimented with other mediums as well. When the sisters returned to New York City, they enrolled in classes at the Art Students' League. Elizabeth remained in New York for the rest of her life. Her work was exhibited numerous times at the Salons of America exhibition, as well as the Art Institute of Chicago in 1935.
