Description:

ENGLISH CREAMWARE CYLINDRICAL TANKARD AND COVER late 18th or 19th century, possibly Leeds or William Greatbatch, of fluted cylindrical form with strap handle, the conforming cover with a broad spire finial, both striated in green, yellow, grey-blue and speckled manganese, h: 6 1/2 in.

Catalogue Note:
Covered mugs are generally used for hot chocolate. While Leeds is known for fluted wares, shards enameled with a similar pattern were recovered from the Greatbatch site, see David Barker, ‘William Greatbatch', pl. 73.
