ENGLISH CREAMWARE POLYCHROME ENAMELED ‘SHEPHERDESS’ TEAPOT AND COVER
circa 1770-1777, attributed to Wedgwood and the workshop of David Rhodes, London, of globular form with cabbage molded spout, the grooved entwined strap handle with floral terminals, the slightly domed cover with an upright flower finial, polychrome enameled with a pastoral vignette of a shepherdess in a puce and gray dress with laced bodice wearing a jaunty hat and cradling a black staff, before a distant gate and towered building, the other side with a similar landscape and building, h: 4 5/8 x l: 7 1/4 in.
