Catalogue Note:
In the years 1761-1790, Wedgwood employed the printing firm John Sadler & Guy Green of Liverpool. Wedgwood would sell them undecorated wares to be decorated with transfer-prints. Once successfully decorated, the objects would be repurchased. Also see Robin Reilly, ‘Wedgwood’, Vol. I, pp. 209-246 for an in-depth discussion of the business practices of these two firms. At Wedgwood, this print is part of the so-called 'Liverpool Birds' series.
