Description:

ENGLISH RED STONEWARE ENGINE-TURNED KETTLE AND COVER circa 1765, unmarked, attributed to Wedgwood at the Brick House, Burslem, the rattan and metal handle a later replacement, with upright acanthus bail handle supports, the foliate molded spout with a mask terminal, the cover and body lathed with an undulating fluted geometric design, h: 5 1/2 x w: 9 in.

Provenance: Jeffrey Milkins Collection, no. 702.

For a similarly engine-turned milk-jug and cover from the Brick House, Burslem, see The British Museum, registration no. G.29. Per Aileen Dawson, a cover is said to have been found at this site by Miss Eliza Meteyard; both circa 1764-1769.
