Catalogue Note:
For a Wedgwood jasperware example, circa 1785, see the British Museum, accession no. 1887,0307,I.21. Also see Robin Reilly and George Savage, 'Wedgwood: The Portrait Medallions', p. 203, for a similar example. The entry referencing two models and an 'Oven Book' record for the 29th September 1786. Based on the unusual speckled-ground of the present example, it is likely that this piece was part of that trial.
