Catalogue note: Brissot de Warville was known for his paintings and drawings of rustic scenes featuring sheep and cattle, capturing the charm of pastoral French life. He served as Director of the Musée du Château de Compiègne and was a prolific artist whose works are represented in many museum collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and museums in Chartres, Amiens, Mulhouse, Reims, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Sens, Strasbourg, and Troyes. The most extensive collection of his work remains in the museum at Compiègne.
