FIVE NYMPHENBURG PORCELAIN FIGURES OF PUTTI AS OVIDIAN GODS late 19th/20th Century, impressed Bavarian shield mark to two bases and the undersides, impressed model nos. 417, 265, 241, 241 and 96 over 10, one Autumn with printed green West Germany, after the models by Franz Anton Bustelli of 1745 to 1763, each modeled with the corresponding attribute, including Flora emblematic of Spring with flowers, Ceres as Summer with wheat, twice Bacchus as Autumn celebrating the grape harvest and Juno above clouds with a peacock, four on rocaille-molded bases enriched with gilt, h: 4 1/8 in. Literature: In the years 1754 to 1763, Franz Anton Bustelli modeled a set of small Baroque style putti at Nymphenburg, representing the Roman gods as described by the Latin poet Ovid. In contrast to previous representations, he sculpted them in as playful children twisting and turning in three-dimensional poses.
