FOUR PIECES OF JAPANESE EXPORT NAMBAN WARES, LATE 19TH C. including a small rectangular censer and cover, the sides painted with three European gentlemen wearing short pantaloons in conversation, the reverse painted with a ship on stylized cresting waves, with square cover and karashishi finial, iron red fuku mark under base, h: 4 in.; a pair of low rectangular cake dishes, the centers painted with different exotic ships, the sides with European men and matching ships on bold brocade ground, stylized iron red and gilt longevity marks under feet, w: 7.5 in.; a heavily potted circular dish with crimped rim, the rim painted with six gentlemen wearing pantaloons and engaged in conversation, with central scrolls, signed Kutani under foot, dia: 7.25 in.; and a simple circular Namban dish, with iron red and gilt longevity character under foot, dia: 8.75 in.
