Description:

FRENCH BRONZE FIGURE OF A CLASSICAL ARCHER, POSSIBLY REPRESENTING ULYSSES, AFTER JACQUES BOUSSEAU (1680-1740), LATE 19TH CENTURY above a green marble base, h: 19 x w: 8 x d: 7.25 in.

Bousseau was a pupil of Nicolas Coustou. In 1715, he was elected a member of the Academie de Peinture and Sculpture, and presented his morceau de reception ("soldat qui bande son arc"), a subject that was given to him by Van Cleve, the director of the Academie (see R. Crozet). The marble version of the present bronze is in the collection of the Musee du Louvre.
