GARDNER FACTORY COLORED-BISCUIT PORCELAIN FIGURES OF A PEASANT MAN RESTING 'THE HALT', A PEASANT MAN DRINKING, AND A LAPTI SHOEMAKER Verbilki near Moscow, each 1870-1890, each with iron-red St. George's warrant mark and impressed Cyrillic Gardner mark, the first impressed 34 and painted 45, modeled in top hat, an embroidered white kaftan tunic and grey pants, sprinkling salt on a slice of bread, his bundle resting on a tree stump at his side, his unwrapped leggings and boots airing on the other, on a naturalistic circular mound base, h: 5.5 in.; the second with incised 4, modeled seated beside an open barrel drinking from a kovsh, wearing a white tunic, blue breeches, wrapped puttee leggings and woven lapti, on a canted square slab base, h: 5.5 in.; the third painted 61., modeled as a seated tradesman, his right foot resting on a short tree stump, mending a woven lapti on his knee, wearing a white red-trimmed tunic, blue breeches, wrapped puttee leggings and hand woven shoes, on an iron-red rectangular base, 5.25 in.
