Catalogue note: George Herbert McCord was an American painter known for atmospheric marine and landscape paintings. He is considered a second generation Hudson River School painter. McCord was born in New York City and educated at Claverack College. Although McCord resided primarily in Brooklyn, he traveled widely; and from 1883 also had a studio in Morristown, New Jersey.
