GEORGE NAKASHIMA WALNUT SLAT-BACK ARMCHAIR AND OTTOMAN with shaped arms, slatted back, and slab seat on tapering turned cylindrical legs by George Nakashima (American, 1905-1990), along with upholstered cushions, unsigned, sold with an authentication letter and copy of original order provided by Mira Nakashima (images of the copy of the authentication letter and original order with the consignor details digitally erased can be viewed in the detail images, full version of the copy of originals and letter to be provided to buyer). This Nakashima armchair and ottoman was used in a mid-century modern house in Ann Arbor, Michigan designed in 1963 by the prominent modernist architects Edward Olenki (American, 1922-2002) and Joseph F. Albano (American, 1906-1990), who trained with Mies van der Rohe in Chicago. This house was featured in the April 1965 issue of "Arts and Architecture" magazine (http://www.artsandarchitecture.com/issues/pdf01/1965_04.pdf) h:31 in.

Provenance: Ordered from George Nakashima in late 1956 and delivered in 1957 with uncovered cushions and was later installed in a house in Michigan designed by architect Edward Olenki (American, 1922-2002) and Joseph F.
