Catalogue note: Harry Spiers was known for his bright oil and watercolor landscapes of New England and Ontario. He was born in Sussex, UK, and trained at the Académie Julian in Paris under Henri-Lucien Doucet and Alfred-Henri Bramtot. He painted in Canada between 1894 and 1907. Spiers was a member of the Boston Society of Water Color Painters and the Ontario Society of Artists; he exhibited at the Royal Canadian Academy and the Art Institute of Chicago. Collections: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, University of Toronto Art Centre; and the Toronto History Museum.
