ITALO SCANGA (ITALIAN-AMERICAN, 1932-2001), HEAD #1138 signed Italo Scanga and dated 1986 on a metal plaque affixed to the base; also numbered #1138 under the base. Oil on wood assemblage, h: 17.25 x w: 10 x in.; base, h: 8 x w: 8 in.;

Scanga immigrated with his family from Italy to the United States after WWII. He often collaborated with his close friend, Dale Chihuly. Scanga had one-person shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston and the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City. His work is in the collections of many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
