Conceived and cast between 1971-74, the present work is number 119 from the edition of 1500.

Ivor Robert-Jones was born in Shropshire, U.K. and educated at Goldsmiths' College (now the University of London) and the Royal Academy of Arts. He served in the Royal Artillery during World War II, and fought during the Burma Campaign.

After the War, he had a studio in London and taught at Goldsmiths' from 1946–73. His first solo exhibition was with Beaux Arts Gallery in 1954. He carried out a notable series of commissions of portraits of the famous including HRH The Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.

In 1971 he was commissioned to produce the full-length statue of Winston Churchill which now stands in Parliament Square, London. The monument was unveiled in 1973 by Lady Churchill in the presence of the Queen, and brought Robert-Jones widespread acclaim. His inspiration was a 1941 photograph of Churchill visiting the bombed out House of Commons (along with Rodin's sculpture of Balzac).

Ivor Robert-Jones became a full member of the Royal Academy in 1973.

His works are in numerous public collections including the National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Christie's London, 18 December 2014, sold number '137' for $43,750 (estimate $6,000-8,000).
