JAPANESE GILTWOOD STANDING FIGURE OF AMITABHA BUDDHA, EDO PERIOD
the deity wearing flowing robes, his hair dressed in tight curls with a raised rounded chignon, elongated earlobes, and a gilt halo behind, his right hand raised in vitarkamudra and the left held in dhyanamudra, all atop a finely carved lotus base, with octagonal stepped base

  • Provenance: Purchased from Kimura Gallery, Nara, Japan
  • Dimensions: Height: 21 1/4 in. (54 cm.)
  • Condition: Losses to back side of leaves below lotus section, also losses in same area to base. Gilt loss and replacements to reverse as well as cracking and losses to back of robe. Halo seems to have new attachment from base. Lotus petals are only in front and do not extend around the figure.
