JAPANESE LACQUER SUZURI BAKO (WRITING BOX), EDO PERIOD of typical rectangular shape with slightly domed cover, the cover decorated with silver and gold lacquer landscape with a bridge crossing a river in the foreground, the inside of cover with a design of waves and rockery, interiors all in gold nashiji, interior of box with further swirling waves, rectangular inkstone and fan-shaped silvered metal suiteki (water dropper) with a raised peach and flower bough - h:2.50 w:8.75 d:9.75 in.

Exhibitions: A similar box but signed by the lacquer artist, Ogawa Haritsu (1663-1747) is on exhibit in the Tokyo National Museum.
