JAPANESE MODERN NABESHIMA DISH AND TWO UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND WHITE DISHES, POSSIBLY HIRADO
the Nabeshima dish of typical form on a high foot with blue combed design, the dish with a branch of fruiting persimmon within a band of waves on deep blue ground, dia: 8 1/2 in.; the two similar lightly molded dishes with patterned borders enclosing a single poppy within leafy border, each reverse with three groups of scrolling leaves and a flower, the soft footrings apparently double milled, dia: 8 1/2 and 9 in. (3)

    Estate of Shirley Z. Johnson, board member of the National Museum of Asian Art
  • Condition: One dish has slightly darker paint at 2 o'clock but this is in making. Overall, no condition issues, but for a small hair crack less than 1 inch long but shows to both sides of dish (it is on dish with small blur at 2 o'clock).
