Catalogue note:
John Joseph Enneking studied in Munich and later in Paris, where he was influenced by the Barbizon painters and early French Impressionists. Upon returning to the United States, he became a leading figure in the Boston School. Enneking exhibited widely and became known for his atmospheric landscapes capturing the fleeting effects of light, particularly in the New England countryside. His favored subjects included twilight scenes and autumnal views, rendered with a delicate and poetic sensitivity.
