LARGE JAPANESE IMARI PORCELAIN CHARGER WITH HAWKS ON FLOWERING PRUNUS BRANCHES, EDO PERIOD
of deep welled shape with wide everted rims, the central roundel enclosing hawks on flowering branches, with the lower hawk attacking a pheasant, enclosed within a band of alternating Mandarin ducks and cranes in shaped cartouches and various flowers, all reserved on a blue and white ground of scrolling karakusa, gilt highlights

  • Provenance:
Butterfields 11 Jun 2001, Sale Asian Fine to San Francisco Private Collection
  • Dimensions: Diameter: 18 in. (45.7 cm.)
  • Condition: Overall, good condition. However, most of gilt to rims worn off. In my opinion, I find the blue glaze very dark, I think it is well represented in photos. Also, wear to gilt highlights especially to hawk in central roundel, and flowers. Good decoration and nice details.
