LARGE ROMAN MARBLE OF ASCLEPIUS, 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Asclepius was the Greek god of healing and medicine, shown here wearing a himation over his left shoulder and around his waist. The snake entwined around his staff remains a symbol of medicine today. The lower section is joined together with old metal pins. The arm is not attached.
