LEDGER ACCOUNT OF BLACKSMITHING WORK FOR LAWRENCE LEWIS AT WOODLAWN PLANTATION BY GEORGE HEPLEYHAUSER, 1827-1829 four-page account on one folded leaf of blacksmithing work undertaken by Mr. George Hepleyhauser or Hepleybauer for Major L. Lewis [Lawrence Lewis], dated from Jan. 6, 1827, through Sep. 28, 1829. Entries include "Sharpening 4 wedges," "mending and putting on 2 shoes," "Shewing 4 horses" and "Pointing and sharpening plow." Lawrence Lewis (1767-1839), George Washington's nephew, married Nelly Custis (1779-1852) in 1799 and received a gift of 2000 acres of land adjoining Mount Vernon on which they built Woodlawn Plantation - h:13 w:8.25 in.
