Catalogue note:
Active in California; Stevens moved with her husband from New York to California in 1889, settling in Pasadena. Although little is known of her previous art training, Stevens became involved in the local art scene and was appointed to the Woman's World's Fair Committee for the upcoming Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. The artist was a founding member of the Society of Fine Art of Southern California and exhibited frequently with the Society and at other venues in Southern California.
